MIKOM UPNVYK, YOGYAKARTA – Master of Communication Science study program of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta (MIKOM UPNVYK) held a thesis pre-proposal colloquium for the third batch of students in Agus Salim room, FISIP UPNVYK Building, Thursday (18/7).
Through this open scientific forum, 9 students presented their research designs. The coordinator of the MIKOM UPNVYK study program, Dr. Basuki Agus Suparno, M.Si, said this activity was a series of Reading Courses as well as part of the thesis work.
“In this reading course, students will read a lot of literature. They will dissect theories, pay attention to the way of writing, and build a line of thinking. After that, it becomes a proposal and continues to research,” said Basuki when met at the location of the activity.
A number of criticisms and suggestions for the presenters emerged from the colloquium participants. Basuki, who is also a Reading Course lecturer, also responded to a variety of student research plans. According to him, the third batch of students’ research ideas are very interesting and have the potential to be developed seriously.
“The research of the third batch is very good. The class is very compact. These researches can later be submitted for research grants, for example on conflict management, city branding, and others,” said Basuki.
One of the research plans that attracted attention was Reni Maritasari’s. Her research idea entitled “Elderly Communication Development Model in the Happy Elderly Class of Sleman Regional Hospital” was glimpsed by Basuki as one of the studies that can be further developed, especially in the field of health communication.
For information, since its establishment in 2017, MIKOM UPNVYK has held a pre-thesis proposal colloquium for three batches. Until now, dozens of students are in the thesis completion stage.
The MIKOM UPNVYK study program was established based on the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Number 123/KPT/I/2017 dated February 7, 2017. Currently, MIKOM is one of the three study programs in the Department of Communication besides Communication Science and Public Relations. (Uswah/Meike)
