Communication Science Study Program (S1) is part of the Department of Communication Science UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta which has 2 other study programs namely Public Relations (S1) and Master of Communication Science (S2). The Communication Science Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta (UPNVY), which was established in the 1995/1996 academic year, initially specialized in journalism studies. However, along with the development of scientific demands and industrial development, the Communication Science Study Program then paid great attention to providing a wider scope in developing the field of study. The fields of study include advertising, broadcasting, and public relations.

Dean of FISIP UPNVY Dr. Machya Astuti, M.Si. explained that the A accreditation is expected to strengthen efforts to achieve the vision and mission of the study program, faculty and university. It is also hoped that the Communication Science Study Program will have the best research base at the national level that is globally oriented, with a national defense spirit based on spiritual values, discipline, struggle and creativity. The description of the vision derived from the vision of the faculty and university continues to be strived for. Dr. Machya Astuti, M.Si. also gave appreciation for the achievements of friends in the Communication Science Study Program, plus so far the Communication Science Study Program is one of the Study Programs with the highest interest and tightness of entry selection at UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta.

Higher education accreditation is a crucial instrument of the quality assurance mechanism for organizing educational activities which is the responsibility of the government. Unlike the 2008 accreditation form standards which consisted of seven standards, the 2018 form preparation changed to nine standards. These components include: Vision and mission; Governance, governance and cooperation; Students; Human Resources; Finance, Facilities and infrastructure; Education; Research; Community Service; and Tridharma Outputs and Impacts.

Coordinator of Communication Science Study Program Dewi Novianti, M.Si. revealed that the A accreditation result is a gift from Allah Ta’ala and a form of hard work and contribution of all existing stakeholders. In addition to BAN-PT assessors, there is the role of external and internal assessors. Then there is the involvement of all lecturers and education personnel, students and student organizations, alumni, graduate users, as well as university leaders, LPPM, LP3M, Telematics, faculty leaders, departments, study programs, and parents / guardians of students.
