The schools that participated in this activity were SDN 1 Karang, SDN 2 Canan, SD Pandes, SDN 1 Pasung, SDN 1 Sukorejo, SDN Gadungan, SD Muhammadiyah, SD Aisyiyah Full Day, SD Kanisius Murukan, and SDN 1 Kalitengah. Each school sent six students and three accompanying teachers.
The activity, which was also attended by the Head of the Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of Education in Wedi Subdistrict Sudibyo, S.IP, MM, began by asking participants to fill out a questionnaire which is useful for research data in community service journals. This questionnaire helps the members of PbM UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta to provide research that is quite useful for the community.
After filling out the questionnaire, the students were asked to pay attention for a moment to the material on oil and gas and geothermal energy literacy. In this activity, the oil and gas literacy material was delivered by Dr Ir. Yosapat Sumantri, MT and the geothermal literacy material was delivered by Ir. Bambang Bintarto, MT. Participants seemed enthusiastic in following the literacy material with various questions that arose in the discussion.
Furthermore, after the presentation of the material, the participants were divided into eight drawing groups related to the theme of geothermal energy and oil and gas energy. The students were asked to draw with their imagination and provide a description. In addition to drawing, participants were also asked to retell their experiences in this literacy activity. Not only that, they were also asked to tell their dreams after getting material from this activity. The oil and gas and geothermal energy literacy activity was closed with the distribution of certificates and a group photo of all participants.
Indah Widyaningsih added that this activity aims to increase children’s knowledge about the energy contained in the earth. “By learning oil and gas and geothermal energy literacy through drawing, it is very exciting for elementary school students, this is a way of learning with a literacy approach that is quite interesting, besides children understanding, it also makes children creative in describing the contents of their thoughts,” she said.
