Communication Science student wins first runner-up for DIY GenRe Ambassador
YOGYAKARTA (UPNVY) – Communication Science student of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Rio Har Pratama, has won the first runner up of the Generasi Berencana (GenRe) Ambassador organised by the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) of Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY). The role of the GenRe Ambassador is a manifestation of a motivator figure to provide information and counselling services to improve the socialisation and promotion of the GenRe programme.
Rio’s journey to participate in the event was inseparable from his activity in the Youth Information and Counselling Centre (PIK R) Bidik Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta (UPNVY). Thanks to the assistance and coaching provided by Retno Hendaningrum, S.IP., M.Si. and Senja Yustitia, S.Sos., M.Si., who are the teaching team at the Department of Communication Science FISIP UPNVY, Rio made an achievement.
The process of selecting the 2019 GenRe DIY Ambassador was quite long, participants started with administrative selection, then a written test with GenRe material, General Knowledge, Communication, Information, and Education (KIE) and Knowledge of Yogyakarta. Participants who pass the written selection, must go through an interview and talent test. The process continued until 30 permanent finalists were selected who were entitled to enter the quarantine period process which was compacted with various debriefing activities. Until the election of the GenRe Ambassador which was determined on the grand final night held on Saturday, 3 August 2019 as the finale.
The GenRe programme develops materials including Adolescent Reproductive Health, Life Skills, Family Life Preparation, and Population and Family Development. Not only did Rio gain achievements during the competition, he also gained experience and knowledge during the 2019 GenRe DIY Ambassador election and wants to be a role model for teenagers in Yogyakarta, especially for the younger generation on the UPNVY campus. Talking about his next step, the son of Mudahar and Sulfiani expressed his hope. “My hope is to remain myself. Spreading positive activities and in the long run there are many who are inspired by what I do.” Rio also added, in advocating the GenRe programme, he will be creative through the use of various social media channels which has also become his interest so far.
