The Student Association of Communication Studies (HIMAKOM) UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta held a Media and Literacy Discussion (DIMENSI) on Thursday (05/09). This event raised the theme “Uniting Feelings, Fighting Racism” to discuss the issue of demonstrations and riots in Papua as a protest against the events experienced by Papuan students in Surabaya and Malang some time ago.
This discussion was guided by Yudhy Widya Kusuma as the moderator. Also present were 2 lecturers of Communication Science UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, namely Susilastuti DN, M.Si and Meike Lusye Karolus, MA as speakers. In addition, this event also brought Yahya, Chairman of the Yogyakarta Regional Indonesian Student Family Association. The event, held at Campus II UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, was attended by hundreds of participants from various backgrounds such as students and lecturers.
“Hopefully, this discussion event can further increase the unity of our country through our awareness of the issues around us, one of which is the problem of racism that has heated up again lately. We really need to fight racism,” said Nur Luthfiah, Chairperson of the DIMENSI event.
The event was closed with the signing of the discussion participants on a piece of white cloth. This was done to show the agreement to maintain the unity and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
