YOGYAKARTA – Avikom Films UPN Veteran Yogyakarta succeeded in winning the Best Film in the Short Film category with the title “Usang Tak Terbuang Mirror” at the UI Film Festival 2021 (September 2021). UI Film Festival is a prestigious national level event that opens submissions for young creators to show off their work.
Christian Tulus Manalu, a 2017 Communication Science student who is also the director of the film explained that the short film tells the story of the character Yanti (45) taking care of Mbah Paing (75), her parents who are seriously ill. There is no proper care for Mbah Paing due to economic constraints experienced by Yanti. Yanti is forced to continue to suffer from Mbah Paing. The increasingly complicated problems made Yanti even more depressed and in the end she experienced psychological fatigue.
The work certainly attracted a lot of attention and won the best film in the short film category.
Tulus explained that the biggest challenge during the competition was competing with the best works of film communities throughout Indonesia.
He also expressed his pride and gratitude for this achievement.
“Proud and grateful to be given the opportunity and to be able to reach this point. Our biggest hope is that our film can meet more audiences and provide new insights through short films,” concluded Tulus.
