YOGYAKARTA – The “Writing Skill in Journalism” seminar took place at the Agus Salim Building, Fisip UPNVY, on Friday (5/26/2023) in hybrid. Hundreds of internal students attended the seminar. Viktoria Polikarpova, Deputy Director of Sputnik News, was the main speaker representing the renowned Russian media.
The second time, UPNVY, especially the Communication Sciences Program, in collaboration with Sputniknews, created mutual relations.
“Sputnik plans to expand its media in Indonesia, while we are developing our study programs to international levels. So, there are two interests that align perfectly,” explained Dr. Agung Prabowo, M.Sc, the head of the Department of Communication Sciences.
In the future, this event will continue to broaden students’ perspectives to an international level.
“I hope students will have a broader perspective beyond what is taught on campus. Maybe, if there is a slight difference with practice at the international level, it can be measured through materials like this. Therefore, students will have broader understanding, especially about journalism,” added Dr. Agung Prabowo, M.Sc.
There was a Q&A session, and five students critically asked the speaker regarding various aspects of journalism in the modern era that might still be unknown. As an appreciation, these five students received gifts at the end of the event.
“It was an exciting event, and the speaker from Russia provided a comprehensive explanation. Although there were slight language barriers, we were fortunate that they provided a PowerPoint presentation to grasp the content being discussed,” said Hayyu Shafa, one of the seminar participants.
