YOGYAKARTA, raihanhafidh.com – Department of Communication Science, UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, collaborates with Sputnik News Agency to enhance international academic standards through hybrid seminars on the topic of writing in journalism in the Agus Salim Building, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta.
“This seminar is an implementation of the collaboration with Sputnik News Agency. In March, we (the Department of Communication Sciences, UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta) signed a collaboration agreement in Jakarta, precisely, at the Russian Embassy with Sputnik News Agency,” said Dr. Agung Prabowo, M.Sc, the Head of the Department of Communication Sciences. He also explained that today’s seminar is a mutualism where both parties collaborate to fulfill their needs. He quoted that Sputnik is currently expanding its media presence to enter Indonesia by involving universities in Indonesia through journalism seminars or other workshops. In addition, the Department of Communication Sciences is also interested in improving academic quality standards to reach international standards. He also conveyed to the students that the seminar can broaden their perspective, as knowledge gained could develop insight and perspective in the international scope.
This seminar took place on Friday, May 26, 2023, and lasted 2 hours from 14:00 – 16:00 WIB. The event was hosted by Whira, an 8th-semester Communication Sciences student, and started with a welcome speech by the Dean of FISIP UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, Dr. Machya Astuti Dewi, M.Sc and also the speaker at the seminar, Viktoria Polikarpova, the Deputy News Director at the Sputnik News Agency. The presentation covered an introduction of Sputnik, a comparison of Western media framing with Russian media, and news writing materials. After the presentation, the next activity is a Q&A session. Moreover, the attending students enthusiastically asked further questions related to the topics presented. The event concluded with distributing souvenirs to the participants who asked questions during the Q&A session.
