WEBINAR ON BUILDING PERSONAL BRANDING THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY BY UPN “VETERAN” YOGYAKARTA

YOGYAKARTA—FOTKOM 401 UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta held a Creative Talk event entitled POTRET #2: “How to Build Your Personal Branding on Social Media with Photography” on Saturday (26/03/2022). The event was held virtually through Zoom Meeting by presenting Dian Rockmad, a professional digital creator, photographer, videographer, as the speaker.

FOTKOM 401 is a student study group under the Department of Communication Science. This year, FOTKOM 401 is 21 years old. To celebrate, FOTOKM 401 held an event entitled “21 in 22” with the pre-event being a Creative Talk webinar and the main-event being a photography exhibition.

This year’s Creative Talk carries the theme of personal branding in social media. Rafli Syaugi Gegana as the chief executive said, “The reason for taking this theme is because nowadays social media, especially Instagram, can be a place for some people to build an identity and character, namely personal branding. The process of forming personal branding on Instagram certainly requires various ways and strategies to create cool personal branding. Therefore, Creative Talk is present as a place to learn from each other about how to form personal branding on social media.”

Dian Rockmad touched on the importance of personal branding with photography today. “Indonesia is number 9 as the country that uses the internet the most, for 8 hours if I’m not mistaken. Therefore, the challenge today is short attention span. And we need this personal branding to be able to stand out from the increasing number of content creators,” said Dian.

Dian then shared the steps in personal branding through photography. First, recognise yourself first. One must set long-term goals when doing personal branding through social media. Then the second is to determine the unique selling point of oneself. One does not need to build a grandiose identity through photography, but must adjust to one’s own abilities and uniqueness. Then the third, determining the target audience. One must be able to determine what kind of audinece one wants to target. Then the last is to establish a relationship. This can be done by joining the community or establishing relationships with clients.

After the event ended, Rafli expressed his gratitude that the event had run smoothly and was attended by many participants. “I hope the participants who have attended the event can build their personal branding on social media,” Rafli concluded.
