The Press Laboratory at the Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, National Development University “Veteran” Yogyakarta is a very important facility in supporting student journalism practicum activities and serves as the editorial board of Attitude Press, the student media of the Department of Communication Science.
This laboratory is specifically designed to create an environment similar to a professional journalistic work environment, so that students can gain hands-on experience in carrying out journalistic tasks which include news coverage, article writing, editing, and media content management.
The laboratory facilities are equipped with the latest equipment and software required in modern journalism practicum. Students have access to computers, laptops, photo and video editing software, cameras, microphones, and other technical equipment needed to produce quality journalistic work.
The Press Laboratory also provides ergonomically designed workspaces with work desks, computers, and stable internet access. This workspace allows students to research, write, edit, and collaborate in producing informative and weighty journalistic content.
In addition, the Press Laboratory serves as the editor of Sikap Pers, the student media of the Communication Science Department. As an editorial board, this laboratory is a gathering place for students involved in the production and editing of content for the media. Students can hone their skills in compiling news, conducting interviews, editing writing, and organising and managing editorial operations.
The Press Laboratory is also a place to develop students’ journalistic spirit and creativity. Through practicum activities and the role of editor, students can develop their ability to research facts, write in the right style, and convey information with objectivity and clarity.
With this complete and functional Press Laboratory, the Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta ensures that students have adequate means to hone their journalistic skills, produce quality media content, and prepare themselves for careers in journalism and media communication.
PRESS LABORATORY ACTIVITIES
The main use of the Press Laboratory is to carry out practicum activities for various courses related to journalism. These courses include print media production, feature writing, and in-depth reporting. This laboratory is designed to provide practical experience to students in developing their ability to write and cover informative and weighty news.
In addition, the Press Laboratory also has an important role as the Editorial Office of LPM (Student Press Agency) Sikap, which is managed by students of the Department of Communication Science under the direct direction of the Department. The editorial team of LPM Sikap is a gathering place for students involved in the production and editing of print media content. Through this editorial, students can hone their journalistic skills, including news preparation, feature writing, and conducting in-depth research and interviews.
The Press Laboratory is also a place for students to develop creativity, courage in finding and delivering news, and critical thinking skills in presenting information. Through practical experience in the Press Laboratory, students can gain a better understanding of journalistic ethics, social responsibility, and the role of the media in society.
