The Radio Laboratory at the Department of Communication Science UPN Veteran Yogyakarta is a very valuable facility for Communication Science students. The purpose of the radio laboratory is to provide practical experience in the radio broadcasting industry. Thus, students can develop their skills and prepare themselves for a career in radio or other media designed to give students practical experience in the field of radio production and broadcasting.
The radio laboratory at the Department of Communication Science UPN Veteran Yogyakarta is also equipped with a podcast room as a facility to learn how to make good and correct podcasts. In this laboratory, there are various supporting tools such as mixers, microphones, headsets, transmitters, and others. The main function of the radio laboratory is a place to practice or apply theory, research and scientific development within the Department of Communication Science FISIP UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, so that it becomes an important element in lecture activities, especially the practicum of Radio Program Production, Public Speaking and Audio Advertising Production.
In this Radio Laboratory students can learn and develop skills in:
- Radio Broadcasting: Students will learn about the basic techniques and principles of radio broadcasting, including sound recording techniques, use of studio equipment, and broadcast organisation.
- Programme Editing and Production: Students will learn about radio programme creation and production, including content development, script writing, programme segment arrangement, and audio editing.
- Audio Production: Students will learn about audio production, including sound recording, editing, mixing, and audio processing.
- Software Usage: Students will be taught the use of computer software or audio editing applications commonly used in radio production.
- Broadcast Experience: Students will be given the opportunity to experience live radio broadcasting by filling the role of host, or reporter.
Laboratory Activities
Radio Laboratory at the Department of Communication Science FISIP UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta is a laboratory used for learning and research activities in the field of radio broadcasting.
The main use of the Radio Laboratory is to carry out practicum activities for various courses related to audio media production. These courses include Radio Programme Production, Public Speaking and Audio Advertisement Production.
The Radio Laboratory is designed to provide students with practical experience in developing skills in the professional radio broadcasting industry. In addition, this Radio laboratory activity is routinely used as a community radio broadcast that is distributed via streaming media and managed by the CRAST 107.8 FM Student Study Group (KSM) which is engaged in radio broadcasting as well as a student organisation in the Department of Communication Science UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta.
